Ward D. Rummel
Ward
Rummel is a well recognized veteran of 47 years in NDT technology. He retired
from 35 years of progressive engineering work for Martin Marietta / Lockheed
Martin at their Denver, Aerospace facility.
He is widely recognized for his
pioneering work as the originator and developer of the Probability of Detection
(POD) metric that has become a world standard for the assessment and
quantification of Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) capabilities and reliability.
He currently works as a consultant to industry and government (USAF, FAA, NASA
and the Railroad Industry) with focus on aerospace applications of NDT
technologies.
He was a member of the special committees for development of the
original SNT -TC1A and the Level III programs, and conducted early Level III
examinations in Korea, India, and Taiwan for ASNT. He is an ASNT Fellow; a
recipient of the McMaster Gold Medal and Johnson Life Time Achievement Award and
Gold Medal from ASNT; the United States Air Force
John W. Lincoln, Award and Gold Medal; the “Certificate of Merit and Gold Medal”,
presented by the Colorado Engineering Council; and was invited to deliver the
“First A.K. Rao Distinguished Memorial Honor” Lecture for the Indian Society for
Nondestructive Testing,
He resides with his wife in Littleton (25 miles south of Denver) Colorado
and enjoys family (one grand daughter), extended family, continuing work in NDT
technology and his garden and orchard.
